Project Directory ( 900 Kb)
The zipped project directory is in a file called TestLodeDep1.zip,
and contains the project described in the above case study.
Unzip this file into any directory and a sub-directory called
TestLodeDep1 will be created. LegendBurster project files, which
include an ESRI shapefile, will be placed in that directory. To
review the project, install and start LegendBurster. When
LegendBurster prompts for a project to open, choose the "Open Project"
option, and navigate it to the new TestLodeDep1 directory, where it
will find a project called "TestLodeDep1". Open the project,
select the "COMMODITIE" shapefile field, and click "Start". Once
the commodity word list appears, click on the "Actions" menu button,
and select any action to explore the system. (The "Query Viewer"
action will immediately display the "Example 1" query results
discussed in the case study.)

Background Information:
LegendBurster's tools for
re-attributing maps make it easy to translate any map's original rock-type
attributes into the British Geological Survey
Rock Classification System
(used for this study) - provided that the map's original terminology
is properly documented. The BGS RCS may be downloaded in a format
ready for import into LegendBurster from Georeference Online Ltd's
TreeList Editor web pages.
Even when original terminologies are
not well documented, easy access to high level terms in the BGS RCS makes it
an ideal framework within which to generalise, and within which to manage
the problems of integrating many maps into one map, or the work of many
mappers onto one map.
Since LegendBurster is built around
the universally recognised ESRI shapefile, almost
any GIS data set is within its reach. Since LegendBurster does
not require an ArcView licence, it is a cost-effective solution to users of
GIS systems other than ArcView.
