Printing Maps and Screens

It is expected that large maps showing LegendBurster output will be generated using ArcView 3.x or ArcGIS 8.x

However, there are several other printing options available for printing maps, as well as for printing other screens which may show important data.  The two main alternatives are printing the active window, or printing a map.

If it is only the map that needs to be printed, it can be printed with higher quality than if the rest of the surrounding screen is also printed.

Printing Window

Printing a "window" carries several meanings within itself - which include printing the entire screen, or just the active form.  These can be set in "File/Print Properties"

1) Print Target

1.1  The full screen

1.2  Only the latest form

1.3  The client area of the current form

1.4  Currently active form

2) Print Style

2.1  Portrait style (vertically longer)

2.2  Landscape style (horizontally longer)

2.3  Let the system decide the best fit based on the form data

After setting the print properties, the user can make sure the correct target is being captured by clicking "File/Print Preview", and viewing the print-preview.  The Print Preview's resolution will be much worse than what will actually be printed on the machine.

Finally, clicking "File/Print" sends the data from Legend Burster defined in the Print Properties to the printer.

Printing a Map

The Print Properties and the Print Preview windows do not apply to printing individual maps.  However, the landscape settings in Print Properties do affect the layout of the map.  The Print Map option is located under the tools menu, and is only available when a form with a map on it is open.  These forms include the Query Results form, a Map Browser form, or a Database Selection form.
