Introducing the Query Net Editor

The Query Net Editor provides all the tools for expressing queries using the vocabularies developed in the Ontology Editor.

The Query Net Editor consists of a Menu Bar, a Toolbar, and a Query Net Viewer area.

To create a new query, click on the "Edit" menu item, and select the "Create Query" option, or click on the button numbered x above.  The form shown below will appear, into which a name for the query should be entered (maximum 8 characters), as well as a description or comment.

Shapefile attribute names have a maximum length of 10 characters. Since a "closeness of match to the query" score will be stored in the shapefile for each mapObject, and its name will be prefixed by the letters "GQ", this leaves only 8 characters for the query name.

The details of the query can now be entered by selecting the query (left-click the mouse on its name, which will turn blue), and then clicking on the "Add Attribute" button in the Toolbar (Item X in the illustration above).

To make a copy of an already existing query, create a new query with a unique name and use the  "copy node" and "paste node" options on the mouse's right-click drop-down menu to move the attributes from the source to the destination query (all child nodes will be included in the transfer).

Adding attributes to a query is explained in the section entitled "The Add Attribute to Query" Panel.
