The Description Windows

There are 2 Description windows, one for models and one for instances of mineral deposits.   Their sizes can be changed by grabbing the window boundaries with the mouse, and moving them horizontally or vertically:

Double clicking on any of the system or user-defined instances or models will display its description in one of these windows.  The model or instance whose details are displayed is called the model or instance "in focus", as it is either or these that will be the focus of any comparisons which are run by clicking the Match buttons.  The status bar will display messages indicating progress as the system extracts the selected model and updates the "model in focus" window.  When the information has been extracted, the status bar will display "Ready."

Should the reference sources for any of the descriptions be required,  the Reference column should be displayed by right-clicking in the "Model in focus"  or "Instance in focus" window, selecting "Add column", and then selecting the Reference column.

Actions inside the Description Windows

The Description Windows are the two bottom windows in the MineMatch Control Panel, with model descriptions appearing in the left window and instance descriptions in the right window.

Right-clicking the mouse in either of these windows produces a similar menu, shown below, relating to the model description if clicked in the left window, or the instance description if clicked in the right window.

Refresh Treeview                          Click to refresh the associated description viewer if recently made changes are not yet displayed in the window.

Full Expand Whole Treeview     Click to expand the entire description hierarchy.

Full Collapse Whole Treeview    Click to collapse the entire description hierarchy.

Add Column                                    Click to add a column to this window.  A small dialog box will pop up to allow you to select the column you would like to add.  Extra columns contain other important description details.  Column order can be changed by clicking on the column header and dragging it horizontally to a new position. Since these descriptions can be printed (see below), it is worth paying attention to which columns are visible before printing (eg: references, etc).

Remove Column                             Click to remove a column from this window.  A small dialog box will pop up to allow you to select the column you would like to remove.

Find                                                   Click and - when a small dialog box appears - type in a word that you would like to search  for in this window.  Searched items that match will be highlighted in yellow, and if they are inside a branch of the hierarchy that is collapsed, it will be expanded.

Reset Search Indicators              Click on this menu item to remove the yellow search result indicators.

View Record Details                     Click to view all columns of information for the node in focus (highlighted in blue).  This is useful if there is too much to view within the description window  -  a long comment, for example.  Remember that the size of the description window may be changed by grabbing the window boundaries with the mouse, and moving them.

Print Tree                                         Click to print the contents of the window in focus.  All visible columns will be printed in the order in which they appear on the screen

Create GraphViz Diagram            Click to view the semantic network for the model or instance in this window.  The file for this GraphViz output will be stored in the "Dot" sub-directory of the folder in which MineMatch was installed.  The filename will have the same name as the instance or model from which it was derived, with the .svg extension.  This SVG file may be copied for use elsewhere.  CorelDraw 10 can read and edit SVG files.  It is thus a good platform on which to incorporate these diagrams with other illustrations of a mineral deposit or model for poster presentation purposes.

Printing a window                          Remember that MineMatch allows you to print the contents of all the description windows by making a print of the entire screen.  Use the File -> Print option to do this, or the   button on the toolbar.
