Introduction to Semantic Net Queries

All LegendBurster queries are stored within the LegendBurster system as semantic nets until such time as they are explicitly deleted by the user.  When a query is deleted (which is carried out in the Query Net Editor), its scores are also deleted (ie: removed from the shapefile attribue table).

Queries can be processed at any time, and a number of queries may be processed in a single batch.  This is particularly useful for complex queries carried out on large data sets, which may be left to run overnight, or over a coffee-break or mealtime.  Query processing is administered from the "Query Manager".

Should any changes be made to any mapObject description, all queries will be flagged for re-processing, as the change in the mapObject may affect how the mapObject is scored in a query.

Query results, which are stored in the projects shapefile attribute table, are, however, not deleted when a mapObject description is changed.  It is therefore up to the system user, when evaluating query scores, to ensure that the scores she is working with are current.  This is easily established by viewing the Query Manager.  The scores of all queries whose names appear in the "Processed Queries" column are current.  Queries which appear in the "Queries to be processed" column need to be processed (or re-processed) before their scores can be considered current.
