Introducing the MapObject Net Editor

The MapObject Net Editor provides all the tools for describing mapObjects (points, lines, or polygons) with semantic nets using the vocabularies developed in the Ontology Editor.

The MapObject Net Editor consists of a Menu bar, a Toolbar and a Semantic Net Viewer.

In the above illustration, each of the numbered items is hyper-linked to an explanation of its meaning or function.

Area 23 displays the shapefile field which corresponds to the "current word list", and Area 22 displays the value in that field which corresponds to the currently selected mapObject.

In the above example, the shapefile field is "COMMODITIE", and its value for the selected mapObject (Map Object 1 in this case, highlighted in blue) is "As" (the chemical symbol for arsenic).

LegendBurster can use this link between its semantic nets and the shapefile to automate many of the steps in building semantic nets, as explained in the sections on "Adding to Multiple MapObjects" and "Using the 'Direct Add' Method".
